Current Projects

As well as all the regular activities PMZ provides at its base and throughout the city, we also like to work on one-off projects - there's always something on the boil...

  • BBC ROOTS, 'Exposing Strength' Project

Group of female singers

This group of female singer-songwriters has blown everyone away in their first performance together at the 'Words and Sound' Event at the Barbican Theatre. In a matter of months, this magnificent seven have created and produced such powerful songs the audience thought they were cover versions of other people's hits! That's how good they are...

The partnership project between the BBC, the Racial Equality Council, PMZ and Space for Sport and Arts has introduced the talented teenagers to music technology and songwriting sessions at PMZ. Music Leaders have been working alongside inspiring female mentors, Loubna Khamlichi and Samara Rolt, to help perfect the young women's songwriting and performance skills. PMZ's Simon Hackworthy has been polishing their mixes and Music Leader, Steve Becket, has caught it all on camera. Don't worry though, Space for Sport and Arts is even funding the production of a DVD, so we can all get to see and hear what all the fuss is about...can't wait girls!

  • Rock Therapy 2008

Plymouth Music Zone's proud to announce the return of its flagship Rock and Pop event Rock Therapy. The rock development programme has been running for over 5 years and continues to go from strength to strength.

Rock Therapy Logo

Rock Therapy is a day-long event that looks to provide young bands and rock and pop musicians with a chance to not only rehearse their material with professional music leaders and music tutors, but also to showcase their talents at a professional live event.

PMZ, PMC and White Rabbit Logos

Rock Therapy is dedicated to providing a safe, alcohol free environment for youngsters to enjoy the amazing music on offer - as well as being a regular platform for the up and coming talented bands of Plymouth (and beyond) to showcase their talents. We are also on the look out for any young people who want to learn the art of music promotion and event management.

All the upcoming gigs and photos from previous events can be found at www.myspace.com/pmzrocktherapy

  • LUKE LUNDIN RECORDING PROJECT

Luke Lundin was a recent BBC New Talent winner for his unique composing style and was awarded hundreds of pounds worth of equipment to help develop his music compositions. 21 year old Luke is currently working with PMZ Composer, Nick Grew, on a CD of the dance tracks he has created. Luke has cerebral palsy and finds music technology helps bring musical life to his talented imagination. You can always tell when Luke's in the building because people start dancing at their desks...
