Plymouth Music Zone is welcoming its latest Special Adviser who shares the charity’s dedication to combining social justice with joy. Jo Higson has worked within equality, diversity and inclusion, across multiple sectors, over the past 35 years and is volunteering her expertise as one of the organisation’s 5 Special Advisers, all leading lights in their own fields.  As a Fellow of the Institute of Equality and Diversity Professionals, Jo says it’s not just a job for her but a real passion running throughout her life.

“I am delighted to be working with Plymouth Music Zone. I love being where my passion for equality, diversity and inclusion is played out every day in practice. I have seen for myself the difference that PMZ can make to people’s lives and am excited about helping out anyway I can.”

Jo has previously been a Trustee for the charity so has seen firsthand the impact of the work. She first came across PMZ while attending with a group of musicians being supported by Devon and Cornwall Refugee Support, an organisation that remains a key PMZ partner to this day. Jo will continue to support PMZ to ensure music can bring together people who might benefit most from being a part of a joyful musical community.

PMZ’s Chief Executive, Debbie Geraghty, says she’s excited to have Jo back on board.

“Jo Higson is an incredibly inspiring encyclopaedia of knowledge when it comes to equality and inclusive practice so can really support the way we value working here at Plymouth Music Zone. This is a place that’s driven by a team and group of volunteers who all love music, love people and love making a difference. That creates a beautiful buzz and unswerving belief in the power of compassion and creativity to really make good things happen in the world, right on our doorstep. It’s wonderful to have Jo signed back up to that joy again. Welcome back!”
